We are working hard to ensure everyone is able to enjoy Towneley Hall.
Our team are here to help you during your visit to offer information on the Hall, park, buildings and facilities. Please ask for our assistance during your visit or get in touch beforehand.
We welcome feedback and comments to improve what we do, so please do feed any suggestions back to us.

Parking

Blue Badge parking is available in the main car park near the entrance to the Hall and near Riverside car park.

Paths

The park has level paths suitable for wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

Entrances

Park entrances are level or gently sloped, suitable for all visitors.

Due to the historical nature of Towneley Hall, there are areas outside and inside the Hall and Museum of Local Crafts & Industries that have some uneven surfaces. Assistance is recommended for visitors with limited mobility.

Lifts and access around the Hall

Towneley Hall has three lifts, two in the main Hall and one in the offices, making much of the building accessible for our visitors and team. Unfortunately, due to the nature of our Grade 1 listed historic building there is no lift to the Long Gallery, Priest Hide and Pilkington’s glassware gallery.

There is a platform lift beside the Victorian Kitchen on the ground floor that gives access to the Great Hall and Regency Rooms
There is a lift that provides access to first and second floors in the north wing
There is a third lift that provides access to the first floor offices

Our Lecture Theatre is a flexible space, and wheelchairs can be positioned depending on the event taking place.

For weddings and events in the Great Hall and Regency Rooms there is currently no wheelchair access via the historic entrance at the front of the Hall. This entrance has five steps with a handrail. There is a step-free entrance at the rear of the Hall or through the Hall via the shop. We are working to improve this for the future.

There are areas including the cellar and selected store rooms and attic spaces that are not accessible.

Toilet Facilities

Accessible toilets are located on the ground floor in the Hall entrance foyer, and Park Life Cafe.
There is a Changes Places toilet and changing facilities located next to the Rotunda Cafe.

Mobility Scooters

We have two mobility scooters available for use around the parkland. These are available to hire free of charge from the Towneley Hall shop during opening hours. They are popular, so please book ahead to avoid disappointment. A small returnable deposit will be required.

Please contact the Hall in advance to check availability. If available, your booking will be confirmed by the Towneley team.

The mobility scooters are kindly provided by Friends of Towneley Park. Donations to the Friends are welcome.

Wheelchairs

We have two wheelchairs available to loan for use around the Hall. Please contact the Hall in advance to check if the wheelchairs are available for your visit.

Assistance Dogs

Assistance Dogs are welcome in the Hall and throughout the park. Find more information about how Towneley welcomes dogs.

Shop and Reception Desk

We have a low-level counter at our reception desk.

Seating

There is seating throughout the Hall. Please ask a member of the team for assistance if needed.

Sensory bags and quiet time

We have sensory items that you can borrow to enhance your visit to Towneley. The sensory bags are located by the Welcome Room. Please ask for assistance if needed.

The park is an open and calm environment. Following your visit around the Hall you can find the woodland walks, sculpture trails and formal gardens which provide space for quiet exploration.

Please note that some larger events in the park can be crowded and noisy. Please check ahead.
