Natural and Wildlife

Nature reflected in Towneley’s collections – Natural history collections help us understand nature and our impact upon it. They connect people with nature in a way that inspires respect and admiration for the outdoor world.

Collections at Towneley include taxidermy birds and animals, pressed plants, minerals, fossils, shells and insects. Some specimens are specific to East Lancashire, whilst others were collected from elsewhere in the UK and many are from countries around the world.

The Wild About Burnley Gallery explores local species of birds, animals and insects, some of which you can find in the park.

In the Victorian Founders’ Room you will see animals from other countries, such as the pangolin, with its unusual scales. And don’t forget about Bill the Bear!
