Image of part of Towneley Hall showing the ‘ghost’ gable

If only walls could talk.

The Towneley family built their first home here around 1380, over 600 years ago. Look carefully  and you will see traces of the past.

After purchasing the Hall, Burnley Corporation transformed the Towneleys’ home into a museum and art gallery worthy of a public collection. This entailed installing a modern heating system and converting a suite of bedrooms to create the Art Gallery, opened by Alice, Lady O’Hagan in 1908.

Can you see the ‘ghost’ gable in the image?  This is all that can be seen of the original Open Hall.
