100 Stories > Shrouds of the Somme

The British part on the Somme, especially 1st July 1916, remains in the national psyche.

Over 72,396 shrouds made in 2018 represent those names commemorated on the Thiepval memorial to the missing of the Somme battlefield.

Of these over 230 were from Burnley, including Richard Hargreaves (pictured).

Hall opening times : Saturday-Sunday 11am – 4pm (Last entry 3pm)

Shop opening times : Monday – Thursday and Saturday – Sunday 11am – 4pm

We recommend 1.5 hours to view the historic house

Public toilets: Everyday 10am–4pm
