100 Stories > Jesse Banister (1879-1917)

Jesse Banister (pictured front row, centre) fought in the South Africa War, where he earned the Queen’s South Africa medal and won a gold watch for being an expert rifleman.
He was killed in action 5th July, 1917 by a German bomb dropped from an aircraft.
In 2014, Jesse’s great-great-granddaughter, age 2, found the cross with his name on it, amongst the 3700 crosses in Towneley Park.
