The war diary for the 91st Siege Battery, 5th June, 1917, reads: “during the afternoon shells fell near battery bivouacs and officers Mess causing the following casualties:- No. 66804 Gunner E Ogle.”
His parents received a letter from him the day he was killed. The following day, his parents received a letter sent by the chaplain, T W Hart, who buried Ernest.
His body lies in Westhof Farm Cemetery, Belgium.
