100 Stories > Cross of Sacrifice (Unveiled October 1926)
The cross was unveiled by Major General A Solly Flood at Burnley Cemetery. At least 188 men who lost their lives in the war are buried in the cemetery.
The majority of these, such as Albert Coar (pictured below) who died of wounds on his wedding anniversary in 1918, have a war graves headstone. The headstones and Cross of Sacrifice are maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission with other graves tended by Burnley Council and volunteers.
