With a fabulous art gallery, one of the best collections English regional oak furniture in the UK, displays of Egyptology and natural history set within a Grade 1 Listed building which was home to one family for over 600 years, Towneley Hall has it all.

Some areas of the Hall have changed little since the last Towneley resident, Alice, Lady O’Hagan, left the Hall in 1902. The stunning Great Hall has recently been restored and returned to its original colour scheme of the 1700’s. It is easy to imagine the ringing of servants bells as you stroll through the passages which were once busy with maids dashing to serve the Towneley family and their guests in the glamorous Regency Rooms. The Chapel however continues to offer a space of quiet contemplation, just as it did when it was created in the 1530’s.
Purchased by Burnley Corporation to provide local residents with a museum and art gallery, Towneley now cares for a varied collection of over 30,000 objects, artefacts and artworks. Managed and financed by Burnley Council, Towneley continues to preserve Burnley’s heritage and provide inspirational and educational opportunities for local residents as well as visitors from much further afield.
