Original Olympic posters of the 1972 Games

The Munich Olympics produced a series of additional posters as part of the graphic atmosphere of the games.

This series was composed of 21 designs of different sports in two to four colour prints, generally emphasising horizontal lines and movement.

Towneley is delighted to host this collection of 12 original posters from the 1972. They were discovered in the South wing of Towneley Hall. They have been restored and flattened over the past two years and custom framed for your enjoyment. Many of them are signed by the original artists.

You can see them at their very best, thanks to the gallery’s new LED lighting system.

A reduced entry fee of £2.75 per adult is in place due to conservation building works taking place at Towneley Hall.

All areas of the Hall will be open to the public with the exception of the Regency Rooms, Medieval Long Gallery and Great Hall. Visitors will still be able to see the Victorian Kitchen and the stunning Art Gallery. The eclectic collections including an Egyptian Mummy, the Whalley Abbey Vestments, Lancashire-oak made furniture, Pilkington’s Pottery and the Towneley Bear are also still fully accessible.
