When Alice, Lady O’Hagan left the Hall in 1902, she took most of her furniture with her. Only the very large table, now in the Great Hall, some benches and kitchen equipment were left behind.
From the 1920s onwards the museum began to buy items to furnish the Hall; we now care for around 280 pieces of historic furniture. Towneley’s collection of regional English oak furniture from the 1600s, is regarded among the best in the UK.
