Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Where can I find more information about oil paintings in the collection at Towneley Hall?

A: Towneley Hall’s full collection of oil paintings is available to view online via artuk.org. This is a great starting point for research and may answer your query without the need for a formal enquiry.

Q: Can I submit more than one enquiry?

A: Currently, we accept one enquiry per person at a time to ensure fair access to our limited research resources.

Q: How do I submit an enquiry?

A: Please send your enquiry in writing via email to museumenquiries@burnley.gov.uk, including as much detail as possible to help us assist you.

Q: What if the research question is a complex subject?

A: Towneley Hall has over 30,000 objects in the collection and enquiries may be more complex than others. If this is the case, your enquiry may take longer than 10 working days to complete, bearing in mind as we are only able to give 1 hour of staff time per enquiry, there may be additional costs incurred.

Q: Can I view an object in person?

A: In some cases, objects may not be available for viewing due to their size, fragility, or conservation status. We can inform you know if this applies to your enquiry.
