Towneley Hall On The Search For New Volunteers

Volunteers Towneley Hall Burnley

The search is on for volunteers to help run Towneley Hall, Burnley.

Staff at the historic hall are championing the work of its volunteers and encouraging others to join them by staging a volunteer weekend next month.

Volunteers play a vital role in the successful running of the hall.

On Saturday and Sunday, 3rd and 4th March, the hall will be holding informative drop-in sessions recognising the contribution of their current volunteers and providing an opportunity for residents to experience what volunteering is like at the museum.

The event will showcase to potential volunteers the wide range of roles available including trainee tour guides and exhibition room stewards, helping with family events.

Anyone interested in finding out more about volunteering at Towneley is invited to attend the event on one of the days between 12.30pm and 3.30pm.

Find out more

Attendees will have the chance to meet the team, chat with current volunteers, find out more about what’s involved and register their interest.

It follows the success of the last recruitment drive which saw 20 people join the volunteer team. This time the search is on in particular for room and gallery attendants and trainee tour guides. An interest in Towneley and local history are a must, along with good customer service skills. However, training will be given.

Ken Darwen, Towneley Hall manager said: “Volunteers are a very important to Towneley Hall. Working alongside our staff, they allow the public greater access to collections and help us to organise events and exhibitions throughout the year and their support is invaluable.”

Councillor John Harbour, Burnley Council’s executive member responsible for Towneley Hall, said: “We welcome volunteers from all sections of the community. We have students wishing to gain work experience, retired people who enjoy the friendship of volunteering and people who love sharing their interest in art and history with others.

“Whatever their reasons, I would encourage anyone who is interested to come along to the event and find out more about volunteering opportunities at the magnificent Towneley Hall.”
