After William’s death in 1917, Burnley Corporation (now known as Burnley Council) sent his widow, Martha, a memorial certificate.
William’s body was never found and he is commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial. Martha paid for photographs of the cemetery and memorial plaque on which his name appears.
