George B Cowpe (1895-1917)

George attended private school at Rydal Mount, Wales. He was killed in action (along with 40 Burnley men) 31st July, 1917. His family had a book about his life printed privately. It was an honest assessment of his character, noting his excellence at sport.

In 1923, his parents presented to the local Sunday School cricket league a shield in his memory.  George is also commemorated on the Coal Clough School memorial.
