David Duncan (1848-1899)

Military tradition and service was embedded in the town.

David Duncan, who wears the Queen’s Afghanistan medal and clasp, served with distinction in the 59th Foot.

This was the forerunner of a regular battalion of the East Lancashire Regiment.

Both his sons served in the East Lancashire Regiment in the war. Both died.
