William Key and Francis J Eddols are commemorated on the Daneshouse Unionist and Working Men’s Club Roll of Honour.
Francis was drowned in 1917 when the Joshua Nicholson was sunk.
William’s life is more of a mystery. He was born in Northamptonshire, and at the time of his death in 1917, was listed as living in both Burnley and Nelson. When the roll was restored it was taken apart. The original Great War roll was found behind the one made after the Second World War.
